It is said of THREE BARS that “he had the greatest impact on the Quarter Horse breed of any horse in history, and “OKLAHOMA STAR bred horses have been at the top or near the top in every Rodeo event that required a cowboy to be mounted.” Because we at Crazy Cayuse Ranch believe these statements to be true, we have structured our breeding program to include as much Three Bars and Oklahoma Star blood as possible. Some of our mares are as close as third and fourth generation to these famous stallions.
We have been successful at producing horses with athletic ability, color, great confirmation, and the type of disposition that the whole family can enjoy. We believe it is essential that our broodmares be good riding horses if they are to produce good riding foals. If the mare is bronchy and mean, there is a good chance the foal will be too. We ride every mare that is put into our brood band. More important than color or bloodlines is the horse's mind. We can’t take a chance putting babies on the ground when the mare is not gentle and trainable. Our reputation goes with each horse we sell, so we do everything in our power to make sure it is a good one. The names that show up on our mares' pedigrees are all second and third generation, (with the exception of OKLAHOMA STAR, which is fourth and fifth generation), include THREE BARS, TWO EYED JACK, DOC BAR, DOC’S PERSCRIPTION, DOC TARI, COLONEL FRECKLES, MR. SAN PEPPY, and even a little DASH FOR CASH, and DOC O’LENA.
We also raise a few quality PAINTS that are out of some of the mares mentioned above.
Color is an added bonus. Most of our mares are GRULLA, DUN, and BLACK, so there are a lot of colorful foals on the ground each spring.
